Bring Back Happy Mail
Written by: Erin Bakker

I think we may have accidentally made everything too efficient.
We can send a message in three seconds. Order something without leaving the couch. Take 200 photographs and never print a single one.
Convenient? Absolutely.
But I am not convinced convenient is always better.
There is still something wonderfully inefficient about mail.
Someone has to choose the paper. Write the note. Find the stamp. Put it in a mailbox. Then the envelope has to physically travel from one place to another.
And finally, days later, somebody gets to open it.
That tiny pause is part of the magic
The Post Room was created around that feeling.
Every month, we put together a small envelope filled with things meant to be enjoyed, shared, displayed, tucked away or passed along.
There might be a piece of art.
A postcard.
A sticker.
A bookmark.
Something to make.
Something to think about.
Something that reminds you to notice what is happening around you.
The contents will change because the things inspiring us change.
One month might come from flowers blooming outside our house.
Another might start with something HG is learning about.
Another could come from an artist we cannot stop thinking about.
There are very few rules.
That is part of the fun.
You do not have to be a kid
This is important.
The Post Room is absolutely wonderful for children, but we did not create it only for children.
Send it to your mother.
Your college student.
Your best friend who lives across the country.
Your niece.
Your grandmother.
Yourself.
There is no age limit on opening an envelope and thinking, “Oh! This is for me.”
We could all use a little more of that.
The Post Room is $12.99 per month, and 10% of proceeds benefit Caring & Sharing of South Walton.
