The One Thing We Don’t Agree On

Erin and I creatively agree on almost everything.

Almost.

There is one glaring exception: Halloween.

Erin looks forward to October 31st because, to her, it marks the beginning of the Christmas season. Her tree goes up that day. Halloween is essentially something she has to get through before the real decorating can begin.

I find this deeply unfortunate for her. And honestly, it's wierd. Which I guess is on brand these days.

Imagine willingly skipping over an entire month dedicated to costumes and completely unnecessary decorations. Couldn’t be me.

Because I LOVE Halloween.

Not necessarily the creepy, terrifying, sleep-with-the-lights-on version. I like Halloween because it’s weird. It’s fun. It’s nostalgic. It gives us permission to be a little ridiculous for a month.

So, in honor of October 1st, I did what any reasonable person trying to defend an entire holiday would do:

I went to Pinterest.

I went looking for the brightest, happiest, most whimsical version of Halloween I could find. Colorful pumpkins, cheerful little skeletons, funky apparel & home decor, craft ideas, cool jewelry, and all sorts of wonderfully unnecessary things.

See, Erin? Not so bad.

And really, that’s what I love about Halloween. There isn’t one way to do it. It can be colorful and silly or nostalgic and cozy. It can even be barely spooky at all.

My favorite version of Halloween tends to lean a little moodier, prettier and more collected with just enough spooky to feel a little whimsy.

So naturally, I made a little collection of those things too.

A collection of Halloween things I love. A little moodier and admittedly less colorful as than the version I used to get Erin on board.

So, Happy October.

Make Halloween bright. Make it moody. Make it nostalgic. Make it weird.

Put a bow on a ghost if that makes you happy.

Happy Halloween can be whatever you make it.

And then, on October 31st, I’ll apparently help Erin put up the Christmas tree. 🎃🎄
