Outside, Considered

Meet RENOVO Landscape Architecture

There is a point in almost every home project when attention begins to move beyond the walls.

The architecture is taking shape. Materials have been chosen. Rooms have been considered down to the smallest detail. And then there is everything outside.

For landscape architect Adam Jones, founder of RENOVO, that exterior world is not an afterthought. It is part of the design.

RENOVO plans and creates outdoor environments ranging from residential properties to commercial, educational and institutional spaces, approaching each through a combination of site planning, landscape architecture, planting design, hardscape and construction.

That breadth is part of what caught our attention.

A beautiful landscape may appear effortless once it is established, but the decisions behind it are anything but accidental. Where people enter. What they see from inside the house. Where shade falls in the afternoon. How one space leads into another. Which plants will thrive, how large they will eventually become and what the garden will feel like years after installation.

RENOVO’s residential work begins with the site and architecture, then considers both how the landscape will be built and how it will evolve over time. Plant selection is only one piece of a much larger composition.

The name RENOVO comes from the idea of renewing, reviving and restoring, language the firm connects to its larger philosophy of strengthening the relationship between people and the natural environment.

That idea has taken Adam’s work in some particularly interesting directions. We’re going to save those stories for later. For now, consider this our introduction.

Over the coming months, we’ll be spending more time with Adam talking about landscapes, gardens, plants, outdoor living and what happens when the space beyond the walls is given the same design consideration as everything inside them.

And we have a feeling there will be plenty to talk about.
